FROM THE NORTH (Quezon City, Caloocan):

Via Private Transportation: Take EDSA and travel South towards Guadalupe. Make a right turn immediately after crossing the bridge, then make a right turn at the intersection. You'll pass under the bridge heading East on J.P. Rizal Extension. Go straight until you see the Makati Parks & Garden Entrance on your left. The park is right in front of Pamantasan ng Makati.

Via Public Transportation: Ride a bus towards Guadalupe and alight at the MRT Guadalupe Terminal. Cross EDSA through the terminal towards Guadalupe Commercial Complex, then walk to the jeepney terminal. Ride a jeep towards Taguig and ask the driver to let you off at Makati Parks.

FROM THE SOUTH (Alabang, Parañaque, Las Piñas,Cavite):

Via Private Transportation: Take EDSA straight to Guadalupe, turn right immediately after Guadalupe Commercial Complex. Follow the curve then turn right at J.P. Rizal Extension. Go straight until you see Makati Parks on your left. OR you may take the expressway to C-5. Follow C-5 Road going to Pasig. You'll pass Market Market on your left. - You are required to use Three (3) photos on your layouts
- Photos should be of your self. Bring extra photos to give you an option when creating your layouts.

- Bring basic scrapbook materials like Trimmer; Adhesive (Glue/Double Sided Tape); Scissors; Ruler; Ink; Pens among others.

Full details, including the theme, of the Layout Challenge will be announced on August 29 at the start of the competition.

Cookie "was captivated by Lee's page this time. I love the over all look of her page, how she made her photo blend to the vintagey look of the layout. I also love looking at the detailed clustering of embellies near her photo. And my favorite is how she did her hidden journaling. Love how that castle unfolds with the image still on the paper to reveal her beautiful and well expressed journaling. So gorgeous!!!! Congratulations Lee!!!"

Cabbie said "it was a hard decision to pick the week's favorite because the theme's colors are my favorites and everyone's take was awesome! What caught my attention this time was LG's concept of the whole layout using her picture and a short journaling which tells all. The pocket insert for dried flowers and the balanced cluster of flowers is really cool! I also love how she positioned her round pictures which made the layout visually pleasing. The leaves and the flowers suited perfectly with each other. Indeed, a really playful layout!"

FAQs on Scrapfest 7

Can I bring my kids to Scrapfest 7?
Kids may attend Scrapfest 7 but they will need to buy their own tickets. Based on experience, kids 6 yrs old and above can hold their own in these events.

Will there be food served?
Food is not included in the ticket price. A food concessionaire has been commissioned to provide for all your food and drink needs for the day.

What's the difference between a demonstration and a workshop?
In a demonstration you get to see how something is made, while, in a workshop you receive a kit so you can do it also. In our effort to bring down ticket prices, we have opted to conduct demonstrations instead of a workshop.

What do I need to bring to Scrapfest 7?
If you purchased a regular ticket (Ps500), you only need to bring materials and tools for the Scrapfest Challenge. The Challenge Kit already includes majority of the materials you'll need to complete the challenge. However, we suggest that you also bring the following:

paper trimmer
acid-free adhesives
alphabets for title
journaling pen

We will announce details of the challenge at a later date.

If you purchased a Shopping Pass (Ps200), all you need to bring is shopping money.

Will credit cards be accepted for payment?
Scrappin' Moms does not in any way participate in the sales of the individual sellers. Some of them might have a credit card facility available at the venue but we cannot guarantee this.

This is the last week of challenges for the Scrappin' Moms Idol 3. One more week before we find out who makes it to the Top 10. This is another week to enjoy and have fun (or be stressed) with the challenges.

As a kid, we used to play a lot with our little dolls, dressing them up, playing pretend and sometimes even wishing about our future prince charming.

This week, it is time to look at your inner self, recreate the fantasy and ask the question…

If I were a Disney Princess…

#1 This week is a TECHNIQUE CHALLENGE.
- Use at least three (3) techniques on your layouts
- Choose any technique that you have always wanted to try but haven't on a layout.

We are on to the last 2 weeks of the competition. The challenges are getting tougher and judging even harder.

This week is different from the past weekly challenges. Do you love to read books? Do you love creating minis?

Then jump on in, gather your supplies and…

BE A BOOKWORM!

#1. Create a HANDMADE "BOOK-INSPIRED" MINI ALBUM for this week.
- A book must inspire your theme for the mini album. It can be a children's book, collection of nursery rhymes, juvenile books (remember Sweet Valley High), adult romance books and a lot more.
- There is a wide variety of books/theme to choose from. Your imagination is the only limitation you'll have.
- The mini-album should be no bigger than 8x8 and no smaller than 4x4
- Include a write-up on your chosen theme/book and how this inspired your mini album creations

#2. The MINI ALBUM should be AT LEAST 6-pages EXCLUDING the front and back covers.
- Creativity and Originality will be a key factor when judging your albums

#3. Create at least three (3) A.T.C (Altered Trading Cards)
- The ATC must be included within the mini album
- Be creative in including the ATC within your mini album

What is an ATC?
An artist trading card (or ATC for short) is a tiny, original piece of art created with the intention of swapping or trading it with another artist, not selling it. The one rule an artist trading card must adhere to is the size. An ATC must be 2.5x3.5 inches or 64x89 mm.

We read your write-ups carefully to help us understand your creative process. HOWEVER, we also want to see GOOD PICTURES of your creations. We want to better appreciate your design and a not-so-good photograph does not give justice to your design and creation.

"I love this page because I was so amazed on how Diane was able to interpret and execute week 2 challenge criteria. I love her choice of paper which truly blends with the over all look of the layout. I also love the effect of the flowers being used as a stamp on her page which gave more character to the paper that she used. And my favorite part was... i love how she used the packaging of the AC Metalgrams to add the embossed effect to the other small photos she used on her page. It also gave her pics a sense of balance without overwhelming the main picture. I also like what she did with the title... just gave me the illusion that it was floating. If you look closely at her page....simple colors yet full of dimensions. Congrats Diane! Your page is amazing!"

Week # 4 - Scrappin' Moms Idol 3

We are now halfway through with the challenges and the fun continues! So this week, go ahead and…

LET’S PLAY!

Grab your scrapbook supplies and follow these steps:

#1 Use the word, "PLAY" to inspire you on your layouts.
It does not have to be your title or even part of your journaling.
Use the word to inspire you on your theme.

#2 “PLAY” with your patterned papers and embellishments! Here’s how…

al•ter (ôl t r) VERB: tr. - To change or make different; modify: altered my will.
- To adjust (a garment) for a better fit.

VERB: intr. - To change or become different.

Alter AT LEAST one of the patterned papers you are going to use on your layout.

How do you alter? You can punch holes, you can doodle on it, spray glimmer mist, paint it, make it look entirely different! Something that we wouldn't recognize the paper you have used.

This is a good way to give your "old", long forgotten papers a makeover. Or maybe you just feel that the patterned paper can still be improved from its original state.

Also, show a BEFORE and AFTER of how you altered your patterned paper.

Alter AT LEAST one kind of embellishment you are going to use on your layout.

How? Add brads or blings on your buttons, or apply rub-on on your ribbons, punch shapes on your chipboard etc.

Explain how you created/altered in your write-up.

1. Use white space on your layout.
Space your photos within the given page while still maintaining white space.

So what is WHITE SPACE?
White space (visual arts)
In page layout, illustration and sculpture, white space is often referred to as negative space. It is that portion of a page left unmarked: the space between graphics, margins, gutters, space between columns, space between lines of type or figures and objects drawn or depicted. The term arises from graphic design practice, where printing processes generally use white paper.

White space should not be considered merely 'blank' space - it is an important element of design which enables the objects in it to exist at all, the balance between positive (or non-white) and the use of negative spaces is key to aesthetic composition.

When space is at a premium, such as some types of magazine, newspaper, and yellow pages advertising, white space is limited in order to get as much vital information on to the page as possible. A page crammed full of text or graphics with very little white space runs the risk of appearing busy, cluttered, and is typically difficult to read. Some designs compensate for this problem through the careful use of leading and typeface.

Judicious use of white space can give a page a classic, elegant, or rich appearance. For example, upscale brands often use ad layouts with little text and a lot of white space. Inexpert use of white space can make a page appear incomplete.

White Space Definition: White space, also called negative space, is the portions of a page left unmarked.

For the purposes of scrapbooking, it is a space left free of embellishments, photos, journaling, and do-dads. You can have a patterned piece of paper acting as your white space, as long as it is untouched. Designers like white space because it allows the eye to rest, and it also allows for the viewer to focus on the image/photo, and embellies around it, without distraction. If you like to cover every piece of your layout, this will truly be a challenge for you. You will learn to simplify your designs, and use space in a different way.

HOW TO: Easy! Pick a portion of your page right at the beginning of your design and cover it with something - or just tell yourself "Don't Go There!". Leave it alone and stick to your plan.

The Scrappin' Moms Idol has always aimed to showcase the creativity and talent of the Filipina Scrapbooker! In the past 2 years, we have seen the abundant talent and this year is no exception.

Every week, you wow us with your creations and we want your talents to be recognized!

From now until the last week of the Scrappin Moms Idol 3 competition, we will announcing one name from among the participants who have caught the eye of our special judges.

And who are our POTW judges for this year? It is no other than the Scrappin' Moms Idols themselves - Cabbie Jane Lopez and Cookie Aguilar!

These 2 ladies have astounded us with their creativity over the last 2 years.

Cabbie, being our 1st Scrappin' Moms Idol winner, have been tagged the altered queen by most of her peers. She can turn rubbish into gem and no one would even recognize it with such an artistic end product. A talented artist indeed! She's currently part of the design team for Artz de Scrap, Scrapbook News and Review and Visual Creations, among others.

Cookie was our declared winner in the 2008 Scrappin' Moms Idol. Her capacity to create beautiful layouts is evident in her works of art. Her eye for detail is impressive and leaves you wanting for more. She is a design team member for scrapbook manufacturers Chatterbox and Buzz and Bloom. She is also a design team meber for Mystical Scrapbooks, ScrappinKids and Rekindled Moments and others.

And who is their choice during the Elimination Round?

Elimination Round Idol's Pick of the Week...

SURF, SUN and FUN by Honey Amabelle Young

Cabbie "was very impressed with the contrasting color combination as well as the focal sun embellishment which served as a guide to visual impact. To link it with the ad inspiration, I see highlighted points which are essential to a good layout. One is the simplicity and coherence which honey delightfully convinced my eyes through her use of simple accents. Her journaling in strips balanced the lettered-all-over background too. Her placement of pictures created a wave-like direction signifying good blending with the whole layout. Not only is the layout's potential very attractive but the unification of elements in conjunction with the ad says it all."

According to Cookie, "I just love everything about this page! the colors, the photos and how this page was inspired by the ads!!! Honey was able to execute very well all the details of this fun page. My eyes were immediately drawn to her entry upon opening the gallery and I was even more impressed when i gave it a close look! It contains the right amount of embellies and techniques needed to make a page shine. "

We want a Piece of You!

Have you tried paper piecing?

Paper piecing is a technique that scrapbookers have been using for quite some time. You can create unique page embellishments with this technique. It is created by using patterns to cut out parts of an image from different pieces of paper. When they are reassembled and glued back together, you can now have an original accent for your layout.

Aside from having original and unique embellishments for your pages, it is also an inexpensive alternative for scrappers on a budget. It's a great way to use up your scraps and create something new.

For this challenge, CREATE PAPER PIECES TO USE ON YOUR LAYOUTS.

Creativity is the key and sky is the limit. There are no restrictions on what you can create.

The only limitation is to use at least 3 photos on your layout.

Scrappin' Moms Idol 3 Challenge Rules and Mechanics

CHALLENGE RULES and MECHANICS
· Each participant is allowed only one (1) entry per week.
· All entries must be NEW and specifically made for the Scrappin' Moms Idol Challenge.
· Digital layouts/entries are not allowed.
· Failure to submit layouts on time will mean an automatic elimination from the challenge
· All entries will be displayed publicly in the Scrappin’ Moms Gallery at the end of the submission period.
· Layouts may be posted on personal blogs, social networking sites as long as the layout/post is linked back to the Scrappin' Moms website (www.scrappinmoms.net) or Scrappin' Moms Gallery (http://www.scrappinmoms.net/gallery/) only after it is publicly displayed in the Scrappin' Moms Gallery.
· Layouts may not be used as entries to other contests during the duration of the challenge.

GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION
· Violating any one of the challenge rules indicated in each round: Please read the instructions indicated in each round. When in doubt, ask! There's no harm in asking. The forum is always open for any questions you might have. It is also a good idea to always check the forum for any questions the other participants might have.
· Incomplete information when emailing entries: Always make sure that you email the complete information needed when sending your entries.
· Digital layouts: Digital layouts are not allowed unless otherwise indicated. Photo enhancement is allowed.
· Delayed submission: If we do not receive your layouts by the indicated deadline, you are automatically disqualified from the contest. So email early!
· Direct scraplifting: Direct scraplifting is not allowed. You may use some portions as inspirations but copying verbatim is not allowed. Following a sketch is also not allowed unless the sketch is your own. This is the time to unleash your creativity! · Submitting a layout previously created or submitted to other contests: The layouts you submit must be created specifically for this contest.

DECISIONS
By participating in the Challenge, participants agree to be bound by the decisions of Scrappin’ Moms. Persons who violate any rule, gain unfair advantage in participating in the Challenge, or obtain winner status using fraudulent means will be disqualified. Un-sportsmanlike, disruptive, annoying, harassing or threatening behavior is prohibited.

Scrappin’ Moms will interpret these rules and resolve any disputes, conflicting claims concerning the rules or the Challenge and Scrappin’ Mom’s decisions concerning such disputes shall be final. If the conduct or outcome of the Challenge is affected by human error, any mechanical malfunctions or failures of any kind, intentional interference or any event beyond the control Scrappin’ Moms, Scrappin’ Moms reserves the right to terminate this Challenge, or make such other decisions regarding the outcome as Scrappin’ Moms deems appropriate. All decisions made by Scrappin’ Moms are final.

Scrappin’ Moms has the right to change or adjust any of the contest rules where it deems appropriate. Should there be less than 30 entrants at the start of this challenge, again, Scrappin’ Moms have the final say on its adjustments.

We have received a concern from one of the finalists regarding the Christmas theme, due to her having a different religious belief.

In light of this, for those who do not celebrate Christmas, you may use photos that "celebrate" a similar occasion, bearing in mind that it should meet the following key components of a celebration (so everyone is on equal footing):

it is a festive and joyous occasion
it recurs annually, usually a major holiday
it is an occasion celebrated by a community
it is a day when family and friends gather, usually for a feast
it is a day when greetings, and possibly gifts, are exchanged

We all have Christmas memories we want to scrap. It could be a favorite childhood memory; it could be a family tradition; or it could be a collection of your favorite Christmas ornaments. You may have a touching Christmas story to tell, or a Christmas miracle to share. Whatever it is, share your story, scrap about it. The possibilities of this theme are endless ... anything and everything Christmas!

Challenge Requirements:

CHRISTMAS QUOTE. Your layout must have a Christmas quote. We encourage you to bring a list of possible quotes you’re going to use on your layouts.
PHOTOS. Photos used for this challenge should easily be recognizable as Christmas photos. Photos can be in any sizes or colors. You must use atleast 3 photos for this challenge. Photos must not been used in any of your layouts both local and international. We encourage you to bring as many Christmas photos as you can for this challenge.
JOURNALING. Journaling for this round must be handwritten on the challenge proper including the Christmas quote that you are going to use. No pre-printed journaling please.
CHALLENGE KIT. You will be provided with a challenge kit and you are required to use everything in the kit, but you may also add anything to enhance your layout further. You must use at least one item bought from any of the suppliers on that day. Submit your receipt together with your entry.

Pre-Challenge Session:
Grand Finale participants will gather in the designated challenge area 1 hour before the start of the challenge. During this period:

The challenge kit will be distributed.
The specific challenge mechanics will be given.
All questions regarding the final challenge will be entertained.
Last minute purchases of materials/embellishments may be made.

We know that there had been questions arising on the non-inclusion of Betchay Salustiano's entry in the Week 6 Gallery.

Apparently, Betchay did send in her entry to us at 8:40am. However, the email did not reach us due to a mistake in the email address she used.

We would like to share with you our official statement sent to Betchay regarding this matter:

Dear Betchay,

This is a hard decision that we had to make. But after much consideration and deliberation, we regret to inform you that we cannot include your layout anymore in the judging.

We have to abide by the rules we have set for this competition. And, not receiving your entry on or before the 10am deadline already results in automatic disqualification. It is unfortunate that the wrong email used resulted to this.

We will be including your layout in the Week 6 Gallery. However, it will have no bearing already to the judging as we have earlier stated.

The past five weeks we've seen your dedication to this challenge in your layouts. It saddens us as well that your leaving the challenge had to happen this way.

Courtney Walsh has always been a scrapbooker in some capacity or another. With a love for photography and writing and the inability to throw anything away, this hobby is a natural fit. Scrappin' Moms Idol 2 - Week #6

The time has arrived for the last week of challenge for the
Scrappin' Moms Idol 2.

One more week before we find out the TOP 10 for the Idol Finale.
One more week to prove yourselves worthy of being called, the next Scrappin' Moms Idol.

And here are the ladies who are still in the running!

Now, on to the final round challenge...

"SIX and Counting!"

Answer the Question: "Why Do I Deserve to be the Next Scrappin’ Moms Idol?"

We want you to have fun in this round with this challenge. We want to hear the lighter side of you when you answer the question. Answers can be absurd, amusing, or darn right hilarious, if you want.

Challenge Requirements:

Create a 12x12 Layout answering the given question
Use only a minimum of six (6) materials on your layout. You may repeat the same material as many times as you want. (Refer to the post below on the Materials)
One of the elements must be repeated AT LEAST 6 times.

Example: six stars; six brads; six ribbons

You may use AT LEAST one (1) photo in your layout
Use only six (6) colors in your layout. You choose your own color scheme. You must include in the write up the color palettes you used.
Black and white can still be used IN ADDITION to your chosen color palette
Photos for this challenge must not have been used in any previous layouts (both International or Local)
Include a write-up on your design process, the materials you used and the element you repeated.

Week # 6 Challenge Requirement on Types of Materials

There are so many materials out there that determining what type they fall into can be a bit confusing. Use the guide below to determine which type they belong to.

Paints. Anything that has the word paint is considered paint.
Glitters. Whether in powder or liquid form (stickles, glimmer mist) is considered glitter.
Inks. Whether it is pigment, dye, alcohol or watermark, it's considered as ink.
Embossing powder. As long as it's in powder form and it embosses, it considered as embossing powder.
Chipboard. In any letters, numbers, shapes and size. Pre-glittered chipboard and Corrugated board are considered chipboard.
Stamps. This includes any type of stamped image. If you stamped and embossed, that's 2 materials.
Felt. In any letters, numbers, shapes and size. Pre-glittered felt is considered felt.
Fabric. Any embellishment made of cloth.
Rub-ons. Rub-ons with glitter is considered a rub-on.
Plastic. Acrylic, sequins, buttons and embellishments made of plastic.
Metal. Any embellishments made of metal such as brads, eyelets, snaps etc.
Ribbons. Including fibers, paper ribbons and laces.
Stickers. Vinyl stickers, epoxy stickers, glittered stickers, cardstock stickers
Paper/Cardstock - vellum quotes, self-made diecuts, pre-made diecuts and embellishments using paper/cardstock.

Exclusions:
Paper/cardstock used for matting, framing or base is not counted. Any material used as base is not counted.Pens/markers as well as adhesives are not counted also. Chipboard and other materials used to add dimension and placed underneath an embellishment or photo (in short, something we will not see on the front view of your layout) is also not counted.

Please take note you are not limited to what we have mentioned above. The list is provided just to guide you.

To help us identify which type of materials you used in your layouts, please include them in your materials list and categorized by type. (i.e. ink - distress ink, watermark; paints - acrylic paint and crackle paint)

Questions that you might have in mind....

So ok, you may think "What if I stamped an image, embossed it with glittered embossing powder? How many types of materials did I use?"

Well, you stamped an image, so that's 1. You used watermark ink for embossing, that's 2. As for glitter embossing powder, it may fall under glitter or embossing powder BUT it's counted only as 1.

"What if I used a chipboard already embellished with glitter?"

This is counted as just 1 material which falls under chipboard. Since you didn't make it, it's counted as 1.

"What if I glittered a chipboard?"

This is counted as 2 materials, chipboard and glitter.

"What if I used brads and eyelets and bookplates in my layout? Is that counted as 3?"

That is counted as 1 because they fall under metal embellishments or materials. You may however use brads and eyelets and bookplates as many times in as many shapes and sizes as you want!

People, this is the round where you can bring out all your embellishments and use them. We can't wait to see what you'll come out with!

Note: We might not be able to answer your questions immediately during the weekend but we will try our best to be online as often as we can. We hope the above examples would help you in understanding the requirements.

... she's none other than Ms. Jennifer McGuire!

Jennifer McGuire, a 2002 Creating Keepsakes Hall of Famer, has been scrapbooking and stamping for about six years. During this time she has had numerous designs published in Creating Keepsakes magazines and idea books, Autumn Leaves "Designing With" books and several other publications. Her work can be seen each month in CK's Tool Time article, where Jennifer shows the many things you can do with one tool or product, along with a bi-monthly article on creatingkeepsakes.com. A book based on this article, 101 Things To Do With Your Scrapbook Supplies, was released in June 2007 from Creating Keepsakes. Jennifer also works as a designer for Hero Arts Rubber Stamps, contributing to their designs, catalogs and web work. She most enjoys teaching, which she now does via how-to videos on her blog, jennifermcguireink.com.
Jennifer lives in Cincinnati. Almost 5 years ago, Jennifer left her job as an engineer in order to scrapbook full-time. Her family includes her dear husband, Ken, step-daughters, Kay (13) and Audrey (10), and new son, Colin (2).

Who would not be inspired after looking at all the layouts for this challenge?! Each and every one was beautiful and so heart-felt which made choosing just one favorite so tough. But after looking at all the entries the one I chose was Donna's Right Now layout. The dark background really brings out the all the wonderful colors on the page. The paper-tearing, layering, and distressing give so much texture and dimension. Overall it's just a really impressive, balanced, and well-designed layout! Fabulous work, Donna!!

I discovered scrapbooking 8 years ago after my son was born with a simple goal to document his first year and many years later I still enjoy it as a creative outlet. I've also been fortunate to design for kit clubs and manufacturers (currently with KI Memories). Design Concept: Balance & Symmetry

Balance: A state of equilibrium
Symmetry: Beauty as a result of balance or harmonious arrangement.

To create a visually pleasing layout, one must take into consideration the balance and symmetry in the elements that we put in.

Visual weight is a measure of how much anything (a photo or embellishment or even empty space) attracts the viewer’s eye. Large items have greater visual weight (attract the eye more) than small items. Light values and bright colors are visually “heavier” than dark values and dull colors. Circles grab more of our attention than squares do. Understanding visual weight is important because you can use it to create balance in your finished layouts. A balanced layout is one that has an overall distribution of visual weight that is even.(Addie Laroque, Scrapbytes www.scrappinmoms.net/scrapbytes)

To create a balanced layout, one must In every layout, no matter what our scrapping style is, a Balanced layout is more visually appealing. We measure balance in layouts in terms of Visual Weight.

There are 2 way to achieve balance.

Symmetrical Balance and Asymmetrical Balance

Symmetrical Balance is usually associated with mirror images, equal on both sides. Symmetrically balanced layout has an even distribution of visual weight therefore usually pleasing to the eye. However, it could sometimes look too formal and boring.

Asymmetrical Balance is the opposite of symmetrical balance though it doesn't necessarily mean that an asymmetrical balanced layout is a chaotic layout. Some sort of balance is still achieved even if not everything is equal. There still has to be some sort of unity between the elements to avoid an unorganized layout.

Colored or black and white photos are allowed

Photos for this challenge must not have been used in any previous layouts (both International or Local)
Your title should have AT LEAST FIVE (5) WORDS
Contractions are counted as one (1) word
Symbols such as @ can be used as long as it makes sense and is counted as one word
Punctuation marks may be used at the end of the title, but will not count as a word
English and Filipino words, as well as expressions may be used
Journaling should be visible
Submission must include a short description of how you applied Balance and Symmetry in your layout

Design Concept: Dimension and Layers

In designing your pages, flat layouts have evolved to include depth and texture, thereby creating layouts with dimension. It is as if your elements are popping out of the page. There are a lot of possible techniques to achieve this - layered embellishments, sewing, sanding, crimping, the use of bulky or dimensional materials among others.

This week's theme is all about you, the historian, the artist of the family
Create a 12x12 layout focusing on you, your life and where you are now
Use ONLY Cardstock and Patterned Papers
You must create your own embellishments.There are lots of things you can do with paper to create your own embellishments like cutting images out of patterned papers, diecuts, paper piecing.
Stamping is NOT allowed.
To add dimension you may ONLY use the following: Diamond Glaze, Clear Embossing, Clear Crackle Medium, Paints (of any color), Glitter (of any color), Stickles (of any color)
Colored inks may be used ONLY for distressing.
Journaling must be visible in your layout. Your journaling should focus on you, your life and where you are now.

My name is Jamie Waters and I have been scrapbooking for about 5 years. I live in California with my husband and 4 kids-- I have 2 girls on the bookends of my 2 boys. They keep me busy with their school and sport schedules so I MAKE time to scrapbook. Most of the time, I do it when they are in school and the baby is asleep. (Thank goodness she's a great sleeper!) ALBY LARAN

This is what Cabbie said about her choice:

I have always loved nature and Alby captured the essence of doing it particularly with this round's theme COLOR THEORY AND HARMONY.

I love the way she combined the color requirements and did it beautifully too! The overlapped stems added to the ambiance while the butterfly accent created a natural feel on the overall layout. What made me decide ( I had a hard time because all layouts are stunning!) with Alby's layout is the balanced blending of color combination.

Yeah, the colors are quite a challenge to scrap because even i would not even think of combining these colors if not for some challenges, right?

And so I salute each and everyone who tried their mojos on these hues. Not only did Alby unite them all with simplicity but she definitely sprinkled the layout with vibrance, smoothly mixing the palette of colors to make it inspiring and thus in the end, in harmony with all.

I am Cabbie Lopez. a certified stay-at-home-mom to 4 boys ages 10, 6,5,4. My passion for scrapbooking began in 2006 and ever since, this hobby became an outlet for me. I love the shabby chic style although I can be versatile at times. I love to try out new techniques, alter anything under the sun and to explore other styles too! I am currently a design team member for 2 sites and have been part of various scrapbooking scenes the past months. I was also honored to be named the first Scrappin' Moms Idol last 2007 too. "A Day in the Life"

Design Concept: Direction & Movement

This principle of design refers to dynamic movement through a given composition. It is like providing a sequence for the eye to follow, giving the layout or the elements more appeal as its story unfolds to the viewer.

Here are some examples:

In each layout, you can almost see an imaginary line directing your eyes from point to point. In "Pool" you can see a circular pattern leading your eye to the photos and reinforced by the arrows. In "I Blinked" there is an imaginary "z movement" leading your eye from left to right, top to bottom on the layout. And, in "Sunshine" the placement of each elements seem to move in a downward position. This started off with the bird, then the subject seemingly looking down at the title.

In this challenge, we want you to document and capture through your photos and journaling a day in your or somebody else's life, and apply the Principles of Direction and Movement in your LO.

How do you capture your or somebody else’s life in a day
Create a 12x12 layout highlighting a day in your, or somebody else’s life
A mixture of Colored & Black & White photos are required

"There were a lot of outstanding entries that I felt so proud knowing that the art I was looking at was made by our own group of scrappers. I have seen a lot of work from accomplished international scrappers and I think half of them may not even be able to come up with something as creative and unique as what the Scrappin' Moms finalists have created for this round. It was very hard to pick just one set of projects. I went over and over my favorites and this scrappers work really tops it all for me. Rollyn Malig’s Party Set impressed me so much. The place holder is so charming with the air balloon and the bird, the cake topper looks so fun and really screams PARTY! The animal theme does not limit its charm to children only. The well crafted projects merit even the adult’s admiration. The final touch which is the décor balloons are stunning. Rollyn made these herself by inflating a balloon, using the shape of the balloon for the jute twine, deflating the balloon, and then placing a candle inside the shaped jute twine."

Our Celebrity Judge for this week is our very own, Ms. Iris Uy!

A very talented scrapper, Iris has been making raves in the scrapbook industry abroad with her wonderful creations. She thinks of her style as "free, full of heart, romance, and imagination. I rarely plan my pages – I let a photo or a patterned paper inspire me and I take it from there." She had once confessed that "I’d secretly feed junk food to my daughter if it’s gonna help me get a better picture from her (Oooops... I know!)."

A 2007 Memory Makers Master, Iris is also a part of the Design Team of notable scrapbook manufacturers namely, Prima, Webster's and October Afternoon.

With her eye for detail, Iris is sure to be the best judge for this round.

Eligibility and Limitations

The challenge is open to all Filipinos, in or out of Manila, with the expectation that they will be present at the Scrapfest on October 4, 2008, in the event that they make it to the Grand Finals. If you don't think that you can make it to the Scrapfest, please give the opportunity to those who can be there. Participants and winner(s) must be at least 18 years with a valid email address. Scrappin’ Moms, our Guest Judge(s), the Challenge’s participating sponsors are not eligible to join the challenge.

All submissions must be original designs intended for this challenge. Layouts submitted to the challenge remains exclusive to the Scrappin’ Moms gallery for the duration of the contest. Neither can they be posted, submitted or entered for a website or for publication until the end of the contest period. Each contestant guarantees that their submission is not duplicated from any other publication, individual or copyrighted work.

Decisions

By participating in the Challenge, participants agree to be bound by the decisions of Scrappin’ Moms. Persons who violate any rule, gain unfair advantage in participating in the Challenge, or obtain winner status using fraudulent means will be disqualified. Un-sportsmanlike, disruptive, annoying, harassing or threatening behavior is prohibited.

Scrappin’ Moms will interpret these rules and resolve any disputes, conflicting claims concerning the rules or the Challenge and Scrappin’ Mom’s decisions concerning such disputes shall be final. If the conduct or outcome of the Challenge is affected by human error, any mechanical malfunctions or failures of any kind, intentional interference or any event beyond the control Scrappin’ Moms, Scrappin’ Moms reserves the right to terminate this Challenge, or make such other decisions regarding the outcome as Scrappin’ Moms deems appropriate. All decisions made by Scrappin’ Moms are final.

Scrappin’ Moms has the right to change or adjust any of the contest rules where it deems appropriate. Should there be less than 30 entrants at the start of this challenge, again, Scrappin’ Moms have the final say on its adjustments

Grounds for Disqualification

Violating any one of the challenge rules indicated in each round.
- Please read the instructions indicated in each round. When in doubt, ask! There's no harm in asking. You may post your questions in the comments section of the blog entry of each challenge.
Incomplete information when emailing entries.
- Always make sure that you email the complete information needed when sending your entries.
Digital layouts
- Digital layouts are not allowed unless otherwise indicated. Photo enhancement is allowed.
Delayed submission
- If we do not receive your layouts by the indicated deadline, you are automatically disqualified from the contest. So email early!
Direct scraplifting
- Direct scraplifting is not allowed. You may use some portions as inspirations but copying verbatim is not allowed. Following a sketch is also not allowed unless the sketch is your own. This is the time to unleash your creativity!
Submitting a layout previously created or submitted to other contests.
- The layouts you submit must be created specifically for this contest.
Posting your layouts in online galleries, websites and blogs or submitting it to other contests.
-Your entry must not have been submitted for any other sites, contests or challenges. It must be made for this specific contest and not posted on any other sites including your blogs. You may, however post your layouts in other websites or your blogs after October 4, 2008.

1. Invite a newbie/neophyte scrapper who is not a member of any scrapbooking e-group (MyScrapWorks, Pinoyscrapbookers or Scrapbooks-exchange ).

2. Pay fees of both Scrapper and newbie on or before April 30, 2008. Both of you will be entitled to win $15.00 worth of scrapbook items each (total $30.00 value).
The more people you invite, the more chances for mentors to win in the ‘bring a friend’ promo!
